There’s this articifial version of cow’s natural growth hormone called Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH). This synthetic hormone is banned from use in organic agricultural production in few countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, and of course, the European Union.
Cows injected with rBGH will produce 15% more milk than the milk they naturally product. It is banned since it’s bad for the cow itself. Dairy cows injected with rBGH have increased incidence of disease, infection of the udder, greater instanced of knee, leg disorders, increased reproductive disorders, until shorter productive lives.
rBGH is also bad for us, people who consume dairy products from injected cows. The milk quality actually degraded, due to their udder infections, the somatic cell counts are higher in the milk of rBGH treated cows. Milk with higher SCC tends to spoil faster. As well as elevated level of Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) in their milk, which promotes tumor growth.
Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are used as food preservatives. While BHA has a white or yellowish waxy solid form, BHT is in a form of white powder.
It is commonly found in chewing gum, butter, cereals, snacks, beer, also in cosmetic products in order to preserve fats, oils, and keep them from becoming rancid. But, it is actually have been known to impair blood clotting when consumed in high quantities.
