What Household Items Can You Use to Make a Fire? Simple Experiment

Electricity down and you need a light? Easily take a match or a lighter and problem solved. But what if you also run out of matches and your lighter also lack of gas?!

What a bad day, but don’t worry we got your back. We are going to show you several methods on how to make a fire with easy things that you can find around your house.

What Household Items Can You Use to Make a Fire?

Method 1 (battery + gum wrapper)

In this first method, you’ll be needing :

  1. 1 Battery
  2. 1 Gum Wrapper
  3. Duct tape
  4. Scissors

What you need to do :

  1. Cut the gum wrapper into thin strips
  2. Take one strip and fold it in half
  3. Cut the corner of the middle part of the strip (be careful not to cut it into 2 pieces)
  4. Open the folding
  5. Tape each end of strip, one on the (+) side and one on the (-) side
  6. When everything is compile perfectly, start to press each side gently
  7. The fire will start to spark from the middle of the strips
  8. Be careful when doing it. It is better if you do it outside but also avoid tall grass.

Method 2 (magnifying glass)

What household items can you use to make a fire?

In this second method, you’ll be needing :

  1. A fire pit
  2. Dry grass
  3. Magnifying glass/ glasses
  4. Water

What you need to do :

  1. Go outside the building to a pavement area (avoid tall grass)
  2. Prepare the fire pit by putting an enough amount of dry grass
  3. Start to tilt and find the right angle for your magnifying glass/ glasses lens towards the sunlight until it creates a focused light on the fire pit
  4. When you’ve got the right angle, hold it for 10 to 15 minutes
  5. When it starts to smoke, gently blow it to nurture the fire
  6. You can add a drop of water to the glass to make the sunlight even more focused

Method 3 (battery + paper clip)

In this last but not least method, you’ll be needing :

  1. A fire pit
  2. Battery with terminal
  3. Paper clip

What you need to do :

  1. Prepare the fire pit and fill it with things that is easily catch fire, such as dry grass
  2. Start to rub the battery terminals with the paperclip until it sparks fire
  3. Immediately put it in the fire pit and blow it gently to nurture the flame
