Uses of Noble Gases in Everyday Life

Chemicals come in either solid, liquid or gas. There is much monoatomic gas definition, one of them is noble gases. It is nonreactive and even one of the least reactive elements from all the chemical in the periodic table.

There are six gases as noble gases. They are helium, neon, argon, oganesson, krypton, xenon, and radioactive radon. All have similarities and resemblance.

The word noble gas refers to Hugo Erdmann reflection on how the compound has low reactivity. It has a complete valence shell which tends to gain or lose electrons.

Like noble metal in the list of chemicals on the periodic table, the noble gas is less reactive with high ionization and negligible electronegativities. So, what are the uses of noble gases in everyday life? Here are some of them.

Each noble gases have their usage and function in everyday life. Here are different kind of noble gases and their functions.

Helium

  •  Medical Applications

There are much helium uses medicine especially for hospitals. It is extremely useful to observe breathing, like emphysema and asthma. It helps MRI scans to produce detailed images of human internal body structure. In most cases, it is combined with oxygen to assist it into the lungs.

  • Magnet Production and Welding

Helium also conducts as magnets. To make it cooled down helium help its formation. Helium is a great example of monoatomic and diatomic gases that are useful for protecting welding companies. It can substitute other elements such as titanium, silicon germanium, and zirconium.

  • Balloons

The most common use of helium is to fill up balloons. One of helium uses in the world the ability is too lightweight. It allows balloons to float high not like a balloon that you blow up with the air your lung produces. It has a different effect.

  • Modern Electronics

If you are familiar with electronics like smartphone, computer, television, tablet, video games, and many more. All those equipment need semiconductor chip to operate well. It enables electrical currents in those devices. Helium can cool down semiconductors from burning.

Neon

  • Electrical Discharges/Advertisements

Among all inert gases in noble gases, only neon that can discharge electricity. The current flow through neon in the tube. You can use neon for various light for advertisement.

There are many colors such as bright light, green, reddish, oranges and many more. Some lighting systems stand out in list element alphabetical order.  Some other light comes in fluorescent and have interesting glow just as neon.

Argon

  • Radioisotope Dating

Argon gas and potassium is highly radioactive. It is similar to carbon dating. However, it is an independent method. The radioactive isotope used medicine which is relatively a new way to date object.

  • 3D Printing

This element is also important to make three-dimension burgeoning images. It limits disorder stress impact, and other reactions. It also prevents the oxidation process so printing can be done rapidly and cool down heat.

Xenon

  •  Photographic Flashes

This chemical can pressure arc lamps to produce picture projection or ultraviolet light. Xenon flash create various light spectrum. If you apply voltage on a glass tube with xenon gas, it produce bright illumination light. It also can indicate medical imaging, radiation, and common anesthetic.

Krypton

  • Energy

Another noble gases that can produce energy. The flashbulb that you use to take pictures, especially the high-speed one is a mixture of argon and krypton. Commercially it is energy-saving fluorescent lights filler gas. It gives adequate reaction to make chemical compounds such as krypton fluoride.

Noble gases are odorless, colorless, and has no taste. The six chemicals labeled as noble gases all have different use in our daily life. From medical to industrial. These man made chemicals that are good for you are proven to many use despite their labeled as group 0 which make them impossible to combine with other element.
