12 Chemicals Combination We Should Never Mix Cause It’s Dangerous

Mixing are always become a fun part to do, because we are expecting something new coming. Like mixing colors, mixing ingredients, and so do mixing chemicals. When we mix two chemical substances or more it will produce a reaction which sometimes fascinating and amazing, but sometimes mixing chemicals or even put them besides each other could leads to disasters.

Chemicals Combination We Should Never Mix

In our daily life or laboratories we will find lots of chemicals. Here are some chemicals combination we should never mix :

  1. Bleach + Vinegar = Toxic Chlorine Gas

Bleach and vinegar are two common cleaning agents which we could fin almost in every houses. These two is a perfect combination in making irritation to our nose, skin, eyes and even our respiratory system. Mixing them will produce a yellowish gas called chlorine which is very dangerous and poisonous. Yeah maybe by mixing it could make it a better cleaner, but it didn’t give a significant different, so it is just not worth it, compare to our health which is at risks.

  1. Bleach + Rubbing Alcohol = Chloroform

There are several chemicals combination we should never mix. Chloroform is a colorless liquid at room temperature. Once it is used as an anesthetic but it has been banned because it is known to give damage to liver and kidney. Combination between alcohol and bleach will create this hazardous chemical which will also come along with gases. Although this gas has a sweet-smell, remember not to inhale it, because it will leave you unconscious.

  1. Potassium + Water = Potassium Hydroxide & Hydrogen (Explosion)

When potassium meets water, it will react so fast. The metal will melts and set on fires, the hydrogen will ignites and produce sparks, along with that there will be also a pretty huge explosion. In some cases its explosion could reach until 20 m in radius.

  1. Nitric Acid + Alcohol = Nital

This mixture are potentially explosive and will produce a toxic gas. When it occurs, the mixture gets really hot and it will form nitrogen dioxide. We can see that it produce nitrogen dioxide by seeing as its color turned into brownish-red color.

  1. Hydrogen Peroxide + Sodium Iodide = Gas and Heat

This combination is pretty common in science experiments which as known as elephant toothpaste, for it produce a huge fluff of foam. Although it’s a fun and harmless-looking experiments, safety still needed when doing this experiments, for it will produce heat and gas.

  1. Ammonium Chloride + Chlorine = Nitrogen Trichloride (explosive)

We should never mix these two chemical substances because it is hazardous. This mixture was dangerous because it is not only explosive but it will also produce a dangerous gas which could irritate our respiration system. This highly dangerous mixture also ever been recorded to make some senior chemists to loss their fingers and eye.

  1. Vinegar + Hydrogen Peroxide = Paracetic Acid

It is a big NO on mixing these two chemicals, because by mixing these two chemicals means producing a strong paracetic acid which could cause pretty serious trouble. It could burn your skin, harmful for environments and much more dangerous side effects.

  1. Bleach + Ammonia = Chloramine

When you are going to use any cleansing agents or any chemicals, it is important to look at its ingredients first. Although household items seems harmless, but when they were mixed, something bad may happen, bleach with ammonia for example. When they used individually, they may harmless and works pretty good. But when they mixed, they will produce a chemical named chloramine.

  1. NH4(SCN)2 + Hg(SCN)2 = Fire

I think it is better to not try this experiments at home, for it is classified as the most dangerous experiment. Combination between salt NH4(SCN)2 and mercury thiocyanate Hg(SCN)2 are dangerous so remember to always be careful, because it could start a fire.

  1. Hydrogen Chloride + Water = Hydrochloric Acid

Hydrochloric acid is one of the most known chemical substances, which was made by hydrogen chloride and water. This chemical substances known for it is a strong acid, which could cause severe burns.

  1. Nitric acid + Copper = Nitrogen Dioxide

Chemicals combination we should never mix – Combination between nitric acid and copper will produce a common nitrogen oxides formula. It is usually used as a ingredient in fertilizers , but its gas produced also highly toxic. It is dangerous for human and also hazardous for environments.

  1. Cesium + Water = Explosion

Cesium is a chemicals element which is commonly used in manufacture. It is an alkali metal, and when an alkali metal meets water it will produce and immediate explosion.

That’s why every time we are going to laboratories we do need to wear safety equipment, read safety guides, work in a good ventilated room and also we do need to clearly understand each chemicals characteristic, so that we could reduce risks of any accident and disaster to happen.

Labelling your chemicals will be a great options to do, so that you will not do mixing mistakes which could cause dangerous reactions. Another better option to avoid danger is by not mixing or use household chemicals at the same time. That’s the chemicals combination we should never mix. Most of all just remember to always be careful.
